Platformity opens its own Co-location Data Centre Platformity, a South African ISP, today announced the opening of its own co-location Data Centre, based in Rosebank, Johannesburg. “The establishment of our own co-location data centre was the next logical step in our strategic plan,” commented Julian Swart, MD of Platformity. “However, we have differentiated ourselves from many of the other smaller ISPs by ensuring that we installed the many ‘back-up’ features necessary for our current and future client base. These included fully redundant power including UPS and a diesel back-up generator, redundant routing equipment and dual 100mb fibre optic links to our First Tier Upstream provider’s backbone. We also have cabinet space from 4u to 42u available. Thus, we provide the capabilities of the larger ISPs but provide the flexibility and tailoring capabilities normally only associated with the smaller players.”
“Obviously access to our centre and the building in which it is situated are also protected appropriately, concluded Swart, “with excellent security equipment, including camera surveillance that has the ability to store the images off-site and to e-mail or SMS alerts to the relevant individuals. Platformity is a South African Internet Service Provider that was established in 1999 as a new generation network based on an open platform design. This was done with the vision of being able to cater for future developments within the telecommunications market, such as VoIP, with minimal change. Platformity provides the infrastructure ‘clout’ of the larger ISP players yet retains the flexibility of being a smaller operator and thus being able to cater for the specific and niche needs of its clients whose business is often totally dependent on uninterrupted access to the Internet.
